BOTOX Cosmetic® Frequently Asked Questions

Will my face still have expression?

BOTOX Cosmetics is intended to enhance and soften the way you look, not change it. When administered by an experienced health care provider, you can still smile, frown and be expressive.

Are BOTOX Cosmetics treatments safe?

BOTOX has been licensed in Canada since 1990 as a safe and effective treatment for a variety of medical conditions. In 2001, Health Canada approved BOTOX Cosmetic for treatment of certain wrinkles, and through extensive research has been proven to be safe.

What is a Botox Cosmetic treatment like?BOTOX Cosmetic is injected very precisely into the muscle being treated.  A very fine needle is used so the pain associated with the injection is minimal.  No sedation or local anesthetic is required, and there is no down time so you can resume normal activities immediately.

How long does treatment take?
Following consultation and a medical and facial assessment by the physician, the procedure itself only takes about 15 minutes to perform.

How soon will I see a difference?
You can expect to see results within 3-5 days after your treatment.  The appearance of wrinkles and lines may continue to diminish for up to 2 weeks.

How long does the treatment last?
The effects usually last for three to four months. After repeat treatments, the effects may begin to last longer.

How much does BOTOX Cosmetic treatment cost?
The cost of a BOTOX Cosmetic treatment depends on the amount of product needed and the number of areas of the face being treated.  This will be determined during your consultation and assessment with the physician.

Who should not have this treatment?
There are very few contraindications for the use of BOTOX Cosmetic.  If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a known neurological disease, you should not be treated. Prior to your treatment, a thorough medical consultation will be down to ensure safety.

Does BOTOX Cosmetic have any side effects?
Side effects are rare. After treatment minor swelling and redness may develop at the injection site. This usually disappears in 2-3 hours. Rarely, mild bruising may occur. Occasionally, some patients may develop a mild headache after injection. Pre and post procedure instructions will be given to you and reviewed, during your consultation and treatment.
